I was thrilled to hear the news that the super-talented Donna Joy Usher has tagged me for the next big thing – Authors Tagging Authors.  Donna is the author of The Seven Steps to Closure, and a finalist in the Shirley You Jest! Book Awards.

Here’s how Authors Tagging Authors works:

·         You answer a set of questions about your book
·         Then post them in your blog
·         At the end of the post you nominate 5 authors, and
·         They do the same.

So here goes.  I’m going to be answering questions about my current work in progress, which was due for release at the end of this year, but will now be delayed.  No folks, it’s not the usual writers excuse of procrastination (although that’s a good excuse) but rather I’m taking part in NaNoWriMo, and that’s consuming a lot of time.

What is the working title of your book?

The title of my new book is Meeting Miss Mollie, and this is the title I’m staying with, as my amazing designer Ami Smithson of Cabin London has already designed the cover for me.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

Do you know, I can’t remember…..no,  it’s not a case of Alzheimer’s but the idea morphed from a lot of different things that all came together into this one idea.  The book is about an agony aunt whose life is a disaster.  It’s also about starting afresh, family relationships, and friendship.  The book title, and one of the central characters, was inspired by someone I love and is a tribute to them.

What genre does your book fall under?

This book is chicklit.  It has romantic elements, a bit of humour, and some heartbreak.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

This is the question that was the hardest because it will show my age and I don’t watch as many movies as I should these days.

Annabelle Smithson is the central character – the agony aunt who has it all, until her life starts falling apart when her husband cheats on her.  Picture Drew Barrymore with dark curly hair.

Christian is the male lead.  Annabelle moves into his house as a flatmate when her marriage breaks up.  When I was writing the first draft, I had a picture of George Clooney on my cork-board to inspire me….it’s a picture of him about ten years ago I must add, and the problem is that George couldn’t play him because he’s too old.  No offence George, you’re still gorgeous….Ashton Kutcher could work for this part.

Christian’s girlfriend Marlena is a Swedish model with an attitude.  Not a very good one, so this would be a fun part to play.  I’d pick Michelle Rodriguez for this part as she’s good at playing bad-asses.

There’s a couple of parts for older actors in this one – Jack Nicholson, whom I adore, would play Annabelle’s father Colonel Harry, and Christian’s housekeeper Cynthia would be played by Miriam Margolyes.

There isn’t an actress alive who can play Mollie – she’s too unique and special a character.
